Transfer News: Real Madrid star Eden Hazard linked with Chelsea return

According to Goal (h/t The Sun), Real Madrid winger Eden Hazard has been linked with a return to Chelsea as options were “explored” regarding a potential move. He left Stamford Bridge back in 2019 to move to the Spanish capital but has failed to succeed at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Real spent £103million in transfer fees to sign Hazard from the Blues, but their money seems to have gone down the drain. The Belgian failed to replicate the form he showcased in the Premier League and is now “confused and frustrated” about his current situation at the club.

The Belgian has been cast aside by Carlo Ancelotti in the past few fixtures leading to his discontent. As a result, he has been linked with a return to the West London side, and options were “explored” before the sanctions on Roman Abramovich put things to a halt. After all, the English club cannot deal with transfer cases due to the restrictions.

Chelsea had assessed their options to sign Eden Hazard.

Should Chelsea sign Hazard?

Those who followed our club legend at the Madrid club would know that his struggles were the result of poor fitness and regular injuries, which prevented him from establishing a regular spot in the first team. However, a source close to the attacker has expressed that “he has never been as fit as he is today in his entire career.”

That could be true after all, when one considers how the Belgium national team boss Roberto Martinez conveyed the same in the past. So there should not be any concerns in that aspect if we continue our pursuit after the current crisis is solved. That is also the reason for the ex-Blues star’s frustration for being cast aside recently.

Los Blancos‘ stance is not an issue as they are looking to offload the La Liga ace, but a loan is touted to be the likely option. After all, he has not fared well for the past few years, and it is reasonable for teams not to push for a permanent transfer. That being said, we have to keep an eye out for Arsenal and Newcastle United, who are also in the mix.

Questions can be raised on whether it is wise to go down this route once the restrictions are lifted. After all, we have Christian Pulisic, Timo Werner and Callum Hudson-Odoi, who can fill in that left-wing role. Then again, Pulisic has mostly been utilised as a striker, right winger or even a right-winger this campaign.

As for Werner, he has not been up to par for quite a while and could be moved out as a result. Hazard is not the player he once was and is not getting any younger either. Add to it, his high wages and it remains to be seen if the Blues will be well served to make a loan move with an option to make it permanent.

Perhaps, we could even sign Hazard permanently on a low fee in the future if he impresses with us after a potential transfer. That is certainly a possibility as his current contract will expire in 2024. We have to wait and see how this situation would turn out to be in the coming months.
