Maurizio Sarri’s Lazio plot Chelsea raid to sign Emerson Palmeiri and Callum Hudson-Odoi

According to the Italian source LazioNews24 (h/t Football.London), Maurizio Sarri’s Lazio are seeking to raid Chelsea to secure the signature of Emerson Palmieri and Callum Hudson-Odoi in the summer transfer window. Sarri is eager to strengthen his side in the summer transfer window amidst increased competition in Serie A.

The Italian giants have added Emerson and Hudson-Odoi to their transfer shortlist as they look to bring in quality additions to the squad. The former Blues coach wants to bolster the team as they look to regain a foothold in Serie A. They have been in poor form of late and require upgrades in several areas to keep up with the competitors.

Emerson is currently out on loan at Olympique Lyonnais, whereas Hudson-Odoi has made a case for himself under Thomas Tuchel. Neither the players’ nor the English club’s stance on this particular interest has not been revealed just yet. It will be interesting to see how this situation would turn out in the coming months ahead of the summer transfer window.

Will a move occur?

Emerson has already admitted that he is happy with life at Olympique Lyon as we failed to recall him after repeated attempts in January. He has fared well in Ligue 1, which makes it doubtful if he would entertain an exit in the future. Moreover, the French side also has the option to sign him permanently for around £12.5 million, complicating things for the Italian club.

As such, it is very difficult to see Sarri get his hands on the Italian defender in the summer transfer window. That is if Lyon want to keep hold of the 27-year-old moving forward. As for Hudson-Odoi, we must not entertain any offers from Le Aquile as the winger has excelled in recent times.

The English attacker made 28 appearances this season and has scored three goals and assisted six times across all competitions. He could have improved even further had his progress not been halted by injuries and Covid-19. Some consistent run of minutes should enable him to reach even further heights in the future.

A decision on Emerson would depend on what Lyon would do in the coming months. Hence, we are forced to wait and see if they would trigger the buy-option or not ahead of next summer. As for Hudson-Odoi, there is no reason for us to pay heed to Lazio’s offers.

After all, our attackers have struggled this campaign, with Hudson-Odoi being one of our few brightest sparks. We cannot forget how he had to be used in several positions and even as a wingback due to the injury plague. The 21-year-old has enjoyed a breakthrough season in such circumstances and has room for further growth. Let’s wait and see how Lazio’s interest will pan out in the months to come.
