Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp claims football has turned a blind eye to ownership issues in the Premier League

Speaking to the press ahead of Liverpool’s clash with Brighton, as quoted by the Independent, Jurgen Klopp has claimed that football authorities and fans have wrongly turned a blind eye to ownership issues and has gone on to confess that Chelsea’s current predicament does not come as a surprise.

The London based club saw lots of restrictions being imposed on them after club owner Roman Abramovich was sanctioned by the UK Government. This includes bans on contract renewals, player transfers and even being banned from selling tickets to Stamford Bridge.

The Russian was trying to sell the club following calls for him to step down due to links with Vladimir Putin. The Blues were apparently attracting suitors to buy the club before the Government’s sanction on Abramovich.

Jurgen Klopp claims authorities and fans have turned a blind eye to ownership issues.

Tuchel and his team have been trying to focus on football and cut out the external noise but the German manager inevitably gets asked questions regarding the controversy when talking to the press. Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp came out in defence of his compatriot and claimed that football authorities and fans have not been interested in issues relating to the owners.

“Did you care really? Did anyone really care when Roman Abramovich came to Chelsea?. Did anyone really care when Newcastle got taken over? Do supporters really care?. It is not Chelsea’s fault. Not at all.”

Can Tuchel and Chelsea focus?

The German manager has repeatedly insisted that his team wants to focus only on football and the external issues are not something that they can control. The Blues still have silverware left to fight for and they need to continue doing that, irrespective of the developments in the administrative side of the club.

The club has a lot of things to sort out in the near future. From the day-to-day functions to securing the long-term future of the team, there is a lot for Tuchel and co to focus on right now.

The Blues are in a mess, something that seemed unimaginable just over a month ago. They were on top of the world having just added the Club World Cup to their kitty and a very successful reign that lasted 19-years is coming to an end all of a sudden.

There is hope that the ownership issues will be sorted and Chelsea will have a new dawn very soon. It remains to be seen when that happens with Chelsea. Klopp has, in his comments above, hit the nail on its head.

We aren’t the only team with an owner being involved in questionable issues and such a situation has perhaps never been seen before in recent memory- which is why the sense of injustice runs rampant in our fanbase right now.
