According to Goal (h/t Daily Mail Online), Chelsea are dealt with a major concern as they could lose Xavier Simons next summer amidst interest from several Premier League clubs. He is widely regarded as one of the brightest starlets of the Cobham academy that has come up through the ranks in recent times.
Simons will see his current contract expire at the end of the summer transfer window. That has alerted several Premier League clubs to the situation as they look to prise him away on a free transfer. Brighton and Hove Albion, Southampton, Norwich City and Watford are interested in signing him at the end of this season.
The West London side will still receive some compensation if one of the interested parties does end up signing the 19-year-old on a free transfer. That being said, the board has no intentions of paying ways with the talented prospect and wants to renew his deal.
It is concerning to see that the club allowed things to get to this stage, especially after what transpired with talents like Tino Livramento, Lewis Bate and Tariq Lamptey. Nevertheless, they are keen on preventing the prospect of losing another starlet next summer.
That being said, Simons is open to signing a contract extension if one condition is met in the coming months. He wants to receive a guarantee from Thomas Tuchel that he can have a future at Stamford Bridge, which is a very reasonable demand.
It is stated that he would prefer to go out on loan next season to make a name for himself to increase his chances of breaking into the first team.
The likes of Armando Broja, Conor Gallagher and Billy Gilmour have done the same recently, so it would not be a surprise to see Simons follow suit and set himself up for a future senior start in the best possible manner. Let’s hope that we can find a solution to this issue at the earliest to protect our long-term interest.
Jorginho and N’Golo Kante have entered the twilight of their playing careers, so we must make plans for the future beforehand. Moreover, Saul Niguez’s loan spell has gone pretty poorly while Ross Barkley and Ruben Loftus-Cheek are clearly not trusted as regular starters despite being in the prime physical years of their career.
Spaces in midfield can certainly open up in such cases, so it will be best on the club’s part to assure Simons of having a future with us.
