Chelsea will not stand in the way of Blues academy coach Ashley Cole if he wishes to join Everton

According to The Athletic’s correspondent Simon Johnson on Twitter, the club will not stand in the way of Chelsea academy coach Ashley Cole if he wishes to join Everton, in a bid to work with former Blues teammate Frank Lampard at Goodison Park.

Lampard was appointed head coach of Everton earlier this week, replacing Rafa Benitez after the Toffees went through a period that saw them come out with a string of poor results. This will be the Englishman’s second shot at managing a club in the Premier League after he was sacked by the Blues last year.

Now, it looks as though Cole may leave his role at Cobham to reunite with Lampard at Everton, with Chelsea said to not be concerned about the former left-back furthering his career in Merseyside.

Cole is regarded as one of the left-backs to ever come out of our club, having enjoyed a glittering career at Stamford Bridge over the years and winning the biggest trophies in sight. Alongside Lampard, the English pair went on to achieve fame and success with Chelsea as well as the England national team.

Lampard raids Chelsea

Lampard seems to be on a mission to raid his former club, with him already poaching Chelsea assistant coach Joe Edwards to join his backroom staff at Goodison Park. The Englishman seems keen on having familiar faces around him at Everton as he looks to restart his managerial career.

With Cole looking likely to leave soon, it is claimed that Chelsea will not be standing in his way, as the former Blue had been working part-time in his role at the academy ever since his appointment as assistant manager with the England under-21 team.

Lampard clearly seems to have a plan in mind, with his heavy recruitment of Blues coaches to help him out in his managerial career at Everton this season. Perhaps it could be the comfort of working with familiar faces, or it could be to use the experience of coaches who have worked at top Premier League clubs like Chelsea.

Cole has been a brilliant servant for us as a player, and after a brief career as a coach in the academy, we can only wish him the best if he wants to further his career in North West England. All eyes will be on him to see if he can continue his fine job as a coach at Everton as well.

Former players seem to be turning into coaches these days, in an attempt to still stay close to the game that made superstars and gave them a career. Cole and Lampard seem to be the latest entrants in that long list, and will surely use their vast experience from their playing career at Chelsea to help Everton climb up the Premier League table for the rest of the season.

Their ventures, however, offer Chelsea no immediate threat considering Everton are surprisingly engaged in a potential relegation battle, while the Blues still believe they can win the league title- given Liverpool and Man City have a terrible end to this season. We are currently scheduled to play the Toffees on 30th April in the PL at Goodison Park.
