Callum Hudson-Odoi posts new positive injury update on Chelsea star Ben Chilwell
According to The Sun, Callum Hudson-Odoi has shared an injury update on Chelsea defender Ben Chilwell on his Instagram account. The left wingback has been out of contention since November and is expected to return only after this season.
Chilwell picked up a partial ACL tear on his knee during the 4-0 win over Juventus in the Champions League group stage. He had undergone successful surgery for the setback and was also spotted at Cobham in January to start the recovery phase for an eventual return to the field.
Now, the Blues defender has been seen stepping up his rehabilitation process at the club’s headquarters, playing around with a ball to get into the groove before taking the next step in his recovery. Hudson-Odoi posted the aforementioned update on his Instagram handle- another English wideman also recovering from an injury problem after having missed the recent win against Lille.
Great News!
Fans would be delighted to see that the English wingback’s recovery is going smoothly at this point. While it may seem unlikely right now, seeing him return for us in some capacity before the end of this season would be a big boost. However, the club must be patient and not risk anything.
We have really gone downhill in terms of our results and performances, especially in the league, since his absence. Before their respective injuries this season, Chilwell and Reece James were giving Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andy Robertson a run for their money as perhaps the best fullback pairing in the league.
Marcos Alonso has tried to replicate what Chilwell has done in that role, but the consistency in terms of minutes and performances has been hard to find. Alonso has been a potent attacking outlet for us down that flank for many seasons but it seems like he is gradually approaching the twilight of his playing career.
Chilwell had a tough season even before the ACL tear as he contracted Covid-19 early in the campaign. Despite that, he enjoyed a great time under Tuchel having scored thrice while assisting once in the Premier League this term. Let’s hope that he can have a speedy recovery and continue from where he left off before the injury issue.
If the club doesn’t update the fans about the small steps in the recovery process, they would certainly be grateful for every snippet his teammates would choose to share with them on their social media accounts.
