“New situation”- Thomas Tuchel confirm Chelsea are looking at recalling loanee amidst injury crisis

Tuchel has confirms that Chelsea are reviewing the possibility of recalling Emerson Palmieri

According to the Metro, Thomas Tuchel has suggested that Chelsea are reviewing the possibilities to call left-back Emerson Palmieri back to Stamford Bridge. 

Chelsea’s first-choice full-back Ben Chilwell is currently out for the season after suffering a Ligament injury earlier this campaign It is believed that the North London club has decided that the British star requires surgery for his injury,. It could rule out the British player for the remainder of the season. 

With Chilwell’s unavailable, Marcos Alonso is the only viable option available for Tuchel at left-back. However, the Spaniard is currently 31-year-old and isn’t getting any younger. Therefore, putting him through an intense and gruelling phase of the season could take a toll on his fitness.

Thus there is a requirement for fresh reinforcements in the January window. Tuchel has now revealed that the club has been pushed to take a decision following the call on Chilwell’s treatment.

“I don’t want to lie. We are looking into the situation because we have now a new situation with Ben Chilwell.”

The former Dortmund manager also suggested that they are assessing their possibilities to call back Emerson Palmieri from Lyon to tackle the situation. The Italian might not be the best of players but has shown enough bottle to do a job at left-back.

“One of the possibilities is a player we know, and we love as a person, Emerson. But we need to check the details. We are discussing and reflecting, and this will go on for the next days, maybe weeks.”

The Blues loanee secured a loan move to Lyon last summer and the 27-year-old has already become a vital member of the French team’s squad. The Italian international has already made 19 appearances in the Ligue 1 campaign and also was part of the Italian side that won last summer’s Euro 2020 title.

Emerson can become a lifesaver for Tuchel’s and could add fresh life into Chelsea’s flagging title dreams. Not only is he already familiar with Tuchel’s system but also prevents the Bleus from spending money on bringing in another player.

Given that they might have to revamp the backline in the summer, spending needlessly in the winter is something that the Blues will need to avoid.
