According to Sports Illustrated (h/t Football.London), Chelsea have identified Aurelien Tchouameni as a transfer target and are ‘optimistic’ about beating Liverpool in the race.
Aurelien Tchouameni‘s 29 appearances in the Monaco shirt this season are enough to make one aware of the wide skill set that he possesses. His comfort on the ball and defensive acumen off it has turned many heads lately. The Ligue 1 starlet has also had the opportunity to represent the senior France team 7 times.
Those who have watched the youngsters over the years would know that he has clearly become one of Philippe Clement’s trusted players in the starting XI. To achieve a regular starting position at 21 for Monaco is no easy feat.
Chelsea are no stranger to the extraordinary abilities of the French international. It is believed that Blues even initiated talks with his agent in the summer, but an agreement for the transfer never saw the light of the day, and the West London team signed Saúl Ñíguez instead.
Chelsea have retained their interest in the French starlet, and even though there is intense competition from Premier League rivals Liverpool, the Blues are confident that they would be able to snatch the transfer away from Jurgen Klopp’s team.
Due to the inconsistent performances of Saul and Ross Barkley, our manager struggled to get through the difficult phase of the season when most of the first choice midfielders were out of action due to injuries. Failing to secure wins in important games, the distance between our team and league-leaders Manchester City increased, which has largely reduced our chances of winning the title.
To prevent such events from happening in the future, our team has to sign a quality midfielder who can compete against the current first-choice stars. Keeping in mind the increasing age of N’Golo Kanté and Jorginho, the Blues require a long-term solution as well, and Tchouameni could well be that man.
And that is why we have to be conscious about the competition and should look for solutions to strike a deal with Monaco as soon as possible. Keeping the growth of the French star in mind, he could certainly blossom into a first-team starter in the future, if not now.
He still has a few years left until he reaches his peak and our fans would be desperately hoping his best stint comes at Stamford Bridge rather than Anfield.
