Thomas Tuchel hails Mason Mount and reveals what the Chelsea ace brings to the table

Speaking to the club’s official website, Thomas Tuchel lauded Chelsea ace, Mason Mount, for his recent performances and touched upon the club’s reliance on him in the attacking areas.

The 22-year-old broke into the senior team in the 2019/20 season under Frank Lampard. Since then, he has gone from strength to strength and has established himself as one of our most important players.

He had a slow start to the current season but is now starting to pick up his form. The Englishman has scored three goals and provided two assists in his last three league games. That takes his tally to ten goal contributions in just 13 league games so far.

Tuchel recently touched upon the club’s reliance on the young star and what the attacker can do better going forward. The German admits that Mount can do well with being more decisive in attack. There is real hope that the Englishman will eventually reach his potential.

‘We rely on him because he plays in an offensive position. He needs to be decisive and assist and score because he has the technique, the ability and the movement to do so. It’s about timing, acceleration and knowing where and when to arrive in the box.

‘The thing is to take care of him, guide him through these moments, to push him and trust him with what we do. Players always want to play, now he is back in a good shape and in full confidence, and with a bit of luck, he will be the guy he can be.’

One of our very own

It has been quite a while since a player like Mount emerged from the Cobham academy. The recent breakthroughs of Reece James, Fikayo Tomori, Billy Gilmour, Tammy Abraham, and several others have also been encouraging but they are yet to make an impact like the 22-year-old.

Mount’s work rate with and without the ball is commendable and is crucial to how the team functions. Tuchel likes the players to be in the face of the opposition at all times and the English international leads the press from the front.

To put his importance into perspective, we have only lost once with him in the team this season. He could certainly improve and become a more complete player in the attacking zone. The German coach shall be sure to instil the necessary qualities in the young star.

Mount has already become integral to the club at a very young age. It would not be a surprise if he stays at Stamford Bridge for another decade and gains the status of a club legend. He wears the famous blue jersey with pride, but with a little more focus on his general play, Mount is sure to become one of the best players in the Premier League, if not across the continent.
