“What a joke”- Several fans react as Chelsea lose 3-2 to West Ham at the London Stadium

Some Chelsea fans react on Twitter as the Blues lose 3-2 away to West Ham United

It was a sobering night for European champions Chelsea as they lost 3-2 to West Ham United at the London Stadium earlier today.

The Blues have been at the top of the table for quite some while, but that might not last much longer. The London derbies are usually a happy occasion for the Blues, but the Hammers took home all the plaudits today.

The game had a slow start until Thiago Silva headed home from a Mason Mount corner. After just five minutes, the Brazilian had to pull off a goal-line clearance. West Ham did not let up, and eventually, a tame pass by Jorginho to Edouard Mendy saw the Senegalese napping on the ball, conceding a penalty to Jarrod Bowen.

An off-day?

Manuel Lanzini thumped the back of the net to equalize five minutes from half-time. However, the action from the first half was not over as Chelsea went on a counter-attack through Hakim Ziyech. The Moroccan slapped a cross-field ball to Mount, and the Englishman hit a delicious volley to put us back in the driving seat.

David Moyes got into his team at the break, and they came out much more energized. 10 minutes into the second half, and it was Jarrod Bowen who caused havoc once again. The playmaker found a pocket of space on the edge of the box and hit the ball with all his might past a helpless Mendy.

The game could have ended either way, but it appeared to be heading towards a stalemate. Hammers substitute, Arthur Masuaku, however, had other ideas and put the home side ahead with four minutes to go. Chelsea did their best but there was just no way back from that late ‘Hammer’ blow.

Chelsea tried to turn the game around, and while we also had Romelu Lukaku on for the entirety of the second half, the Belgian could not conjure anything.

The Blues will now be hoping that Liverpool and Man City slip up in their respective games as well later in the day. Let us now see how some fans reacted on Twitter to our second league defeat of the season.
