Transfer News: AC Milan plot move for Antonio Rudiger amidst contract uncertainty

According to transfer news on Italian outlet Calciomercato (h/t ESPN), AC Milan are looking into the possibility of signing Chelsea ace Antonio Rudiger amidst the contract uncertainty surrounding him.

The German defender has been a rock at the back under Thomas Tuchel since the start of 2021. He is fighting like a warrior and has epitomized the aggressive nature by which the Blues are bulldozing their way to the Premier League title.

However, he is also out of contract next summer, and a new deal is yet to be agreed on. AC Milan are viewing this as a beacon of possibility to woo the player away from Stamford Bridge.

Fikayo Tomori, who ironically left Stamford Bridge for AC Milan this summer, is currently injured and his absence is forcing the Rossoneri to look at options in the transfer market. Rudiger is one of five options on the list of potential replacements. But Milan are aware that they might not be able to afford his services.

Chelsea should be worried

Although nothing is indicating that Rudiger would be interested in joining the Italian club, the Blues should take this as a warning. The Serie A side would be aware of both his impending contract situation and his performances for club and country in the past year.

Rudiger has certainly become one of the top centre-backs in Europe recently and has lived up to the promise that he showed at AS Roma. It is not out of the ordinary to think that a top club in Europe might want the centre-back.

After all, he was part of the driving force that won us the UCL. Into the new season, and he is still hitting new heights. Thus, if a new contract is not on the cards, we need a replacement lined up for him.

Alternatively, if we do plan on keeping him, tying him down to a new deal soon might not hurt. Regardless of our stance, we need to be sure of the plan ahead rather than hopelessly going into 2022 without thinking of the repercussions of losing Rudiger.
