Transfer News: Chelsea striker Timo Werner on the radar of Xavi at Barcelona

According to ESPN, Spanish giants Barcelona are looking to raid English Premier League table-toppers Chelsea for German striker Timo Werner.

Since his €50m move to Chelsea from RB Leipzig last summer, the 25-year-old striker has struggled to adapt to the Premier League and Barca showed interest in the No.9 even before his move to London.

Werner, who is currently out with injury, has struggled with game time under coach Thomas Tuchel and this has given Barcelona hope that they get the 25-year-old striker on loan. He suffered an injury in his side’s clash with Malmo a few weeks ago.

Before his injury, he had started to become more involved in the matches and fans were enjoying his partnership along with Romelu Lukaku, but despite that, he found it difficult to hit the mark.

Barcelona are struggling in La Liga and have appointed club legend Xavi as their new coach. And according to Marca, Xavi is in the market for a centre-forward.

The Catalan giants are currently aware that their economic situation will not permit the signing of an elite-level striker, so they instead want to buy someone who can come on loan in January and solve their on-field crisis.

Chelsea striker Timo Werner could be headed to Barcelona in January.

Werner has already been linked with a move to Newcastle United in recent months, though it still seems rather unlikely that he will agree to any such move.

Chelsea, on the other hand, won’t want to lose Werner as they themselves are facing an injury crisis. Romelu Lukaku is also out with injury, which has forced Tuchel to play Kai Havertz as false No.9 of late.

Tuchel will be hoping that Werner will find his shooting boots once again and can help his side go all the way in the Premier League this season and with games coming thick and fast in the Premier League, losing a striker mid-season would perhaps be detrimental to our title ambitions.
