21-year-old Chelsea loanee admits he is in the dark over Stamford Bridge future

On-loan defensive midfielder Ethan Ampadu unsure of Chelsea future

According to The Sun, versatile Chelsea defender Ethan Ampadu, who is on loan at Serie A side Venezia, is unsure of his future at Stamford Bridge. The youngster impressed with an assist in the 3-2 win over Jose Mourinho’s AS Roma last weekend.

Ampadu made his Serie A debut in September, called upon from the bench as a 38th-minute substitute in their 1-1 draw with Torino. After making his debut, the youngster took to Twitter and wrote:

“Great feeling to have made my Venezia debut. Solid point gained.”

Ampadu, who had loan spells at Leipzig and Sheffield United earlier in his career, revealed that he is in limbo about where he will be playing next season.

The 21-year-old has travelled with Wales for the November international break and will be hoping to qualify for the 2022 World Cup next season. Talking ahead of Wales’ World Cup qualifier against Belarus on Saturday, he said:

“I’m not too sure yet. Obviously I want to be the best I can be after this loan wherever that is. But you can’t get to that point without focusing on the present.”

“Everyone wants you to develop and be a better player so you have that help as well. My focus is on doing as well as I can with Venezia and seeing where that takes me this summer.”

As of now, he will have to make a real mark and stamp his authority in the game if he is hoping to make his career with the west Londoners. The Blues are not short of quality in their squad – they already have the likes of N’Golo Kante, Jorginho, Mateo Kovacic, Saul Niguez as top-class central midfielders up their sleeves.

And when it comes to defenders – Chelsea doesn’t lack quality there either as well. Antonio Rudiger, Thiago Silva and Andreas Christensen are already in their arsenal. Ampadu is a versatile player to have in the squad but he does not look likely to be an integral part of Thomas Tuchel’s starting XI anytime soon.

A move away from the Bridge, perhaps on a permanent basis, may well be what best suits all parties.
