Jody Morris reveals his sacking with Frank Lampard at Chelsea was “super harsh”

Speaking at Off The Hook with Jimmy Bullard podcast (h/t Daily Mail), former assistant manager of Chelsea, Jody Morris, revealed that his sacking along with Frank Lampard in January was super harsh.

Morris came along at the Stamford Bridge with the Chelsea legend as an assistant coach in 2019. The duo was in-charge of two-time European Champions for 18 months before they were sacked in the middle of last season following a string of poor results.

Talking at Jimmy Bullard podcast (h/t Daily Mail), the former Chelsea assistant said:

Morris was assistant to Lampard during his Chelsea days

“The way the season had gone for most teams, unusually for many teams at the top of the table, they went through some really bad spells. We definitely went through a six week period where we underperformed, totally.”

“Arsenal and Everton away was really poor. But we absolutely believed we could turn it round. At Chelsea, things like that (sacking) can happen. Do I think it was harsh? Yeah, I thought it was super, super harsh.”

However, since then Chelsea has done tremendously well after they appointed Thomas Tuchel in charge of the club. The German coach helped West Londoners to a top-four finish and led them to the second Champions League title in his debut season.

Frank Lampard was fired by Chelsea in January earlier this year

The Blues have also been off to a flying start this season – they are top of the Premier League table, have already made it to the quarters of the Carabao Cup and have also made it to the last-16 in Europe.

Morris, who is currently out of the job has also praised Tuchel’s influence at Stamford Bridge.

“When you see what he went on to achieve in the Champions League – he’s a top-quality manager.”

Lampard and Morris will always be loved at Stamford Bridge for whatever they did at the club. Despite not winning any silverware, the pair helped the team to finish in the top four despite a transfer ban and also led them to the FA Cup final, where they eventually lost to Arsenal.
