Speaking to Football Insider (h/t Football.London), Kevin Phillips has suggested Chelsea loanee, Billy Gilmour, join Leeds United in the January transfer window as uncertainty surrounds him at Norwich City.
Gilmour was loaned to the Canaries in the summer on a season-long deal with the objective that he would gain some valuable minutes in the top flight. But things have not gone according to plan as he was on the sidelines for long periods under Daniel Farke.
The 20-year-old got out of favour with Farke, who was sacked recently, having played just six times this season. Dean Smith was appointed as the new manager, which could turn the tide and help him to get more game time.
“There’s no point in him going back to Chelsea because he will hardly play. He should go back out on loan to somewhere like Leeds.”
Phillips advised the Scottish international to cancel his loan and join Leeds in the winter transfer window. He also said that it would be beneficial since Marcelo Bielsa’s style of play would suit him more and cater to his strengths.
“Bielsa plays good football, they aren’t rooted to the bottom of the Premier League, and he will probably get more game time. Leeds play more of the type of football Gilmour is suited to, so it would be a great move for him.”
This was following the recent admission from Thomas Tuchel that they would discuss his future in January. Bielsa was also previously interested in the midfielder, which may have prompted the former England international to give his advice.
The Blues supporters would be hoping that there is some change under Smith and, he would help the loanee find his feet in the team again.
