Former Chelsea legends offer contrasting views on Antonio Conte taking over at Tottenham Hotspur

Former Chelsea boss Antonio Conte is back in the Premier League as the new Tottenham Hotspur manager. The Italian replaced Nuno Espirito Santo who lasted just four months at the Lane.

Spurs immediately hired Conte after they were humiliated by Manchester United at White Hart Lane on Sunday. The former Chelsea boss has a long road ahead of him with the Lilywhites.

Blues legend Marcel Desailly has mocked Spurs on his Instagram post, (h/t Metro) following their announcement of the former Inter Milan manager.

“They pay you to come, then pay you to leave… and you don’t even have to win anything. It’s incredible!!”

Antonio Conte won EPL title with Chelsea in his debut season.

Desailly posted a picture of Mourinho telling Conte: ‘They pay you to come, then pay you to leave… and you don’t even have to win anything. It’s incredible!!’

It is the second time in two years that Spurs have appointed a former Chelsea boss to turn around their fortunes. Given what happened to Mourinho, one can see why Desailly finds the whole ordeal funny.

However, Desailly’s comments do not appear to be echoed by another Chelsea legend, John Terry. Commenting on an Instagram post of page 433 (h/t Daily Mail), Terry wrote: “I hate to say it but what a signing this is.”

Conte is regarded as a serial winner as he has won six major honours as a manager to date. This includes league titles across spells at Juventus, Chelsea and Inter Milan.

John Terry hailed Conte’s signing at Spurs.

While Conte can certainly make Tottenham a better-drilled team, Chelsea have enough going for them to get the job done in a direct contest. Getting the better of them even after they have landed Conte will be especially satisfying.

Tottenham has been a graveyard for managers of late. While Conte can come in with the best intentions, it remains to be seen if he can stop the club from imploding as they often do. Not that we would care, Chelsea, after all, have bigger fish to fry.
