Thomas Tuchel believes Callum Hudson-Odoi will thrive on the left-wing for Chelsea

According to beIN Sports (h/t The Metro), Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel has opened up on which position he thinks Callum Hudson-Odoi will excel in for the club.

The 20-year-old is one of the club’s best young players and has often shown that he has the ability to make it big. Hudson-Odoi replaced an injured Timo Werner in the first half against Malmo and put on a performance that displayed his best.

The performance on the night was a reminder by the youngster that he has much to offer. Hudson-Odoi has found game time hard to come by this season, making just two Premier League appearances so far.

Hudson-Odoi has not featured consistently for Chelsea

Perhaps curiously, Tuchel has also chosen to deploy Hudson-Odoi as a right wing-back. The player’s performance in an advanced role against Malmo however appears to have opened the German manager’s eyes.

“This is his best position, I know.”

Tuchel adds that the left-wing is the 20-year-old’s best position. He clearly showcased that last night despite not getting onto the scoresheet. At his age, he is bound to get a lot of opportunities and he clearly appears to be taking them.

“We know the half left position up front is his best position.”

Despite the acceptance, it is debatable of Tuchel will now push for Hudon-Odoi to be an out and out left-winger. In fact, he has gone on to suggest that the youngster will need to revive his wing-back duties for the team’s sake.

“Sometimes he needs to help as a right wing-back, so he needs to take it for the team.”

With Werner and Romelu Lukaku out injured, it remains to be seen if this is the chance that Hudson-Odoi needs to showcase his credentials.

Tuchel has been a spark of fresh air who lets his players do their talking on the field. If Hudson-Odoi continues to perform well, he could very well prove to be our next big attacker to come through the ranks.
