ThomasTuchel asks Chelsea to bring in soon-to-be free agent Lorenzo Insigne

According to Fichajes (h/t Football London), Thomas Tuchel has asked Chelsea to make a move for Napoli’s Lorenzo Insigne next summer.

The Blues are currently smarting from back-to-back losses to Juventus and Manchester City. Chelsea are also coming off the back of an excellent summer that saw them bring in Romelu Lukaku, and Saul Niguez on loan.

The Londoners also let go of a lot of youngsters like Tammy Abrahams, Kurt Zouma, and Fikayo Tomori earlier this summer. This has to an extent impacted their strength in reserve.

Insigne meanwhile is coming off the back of a successful Euro 2020 campaign with Italy. A key player for Napoli, the 30-year-old would add versatility and ingenuity to the Chelsea frontline that has at times looked flat.

The Azzurri international has scored 111 goals and provided 88 assists in 405 matches for the Italian club across all competitions until now. Chelsea had a great start to the season and are just one point off Liverpool in the Premier League standings. While they look solid at the back, the attack has lacked imagination in the last two games.

Insigne is a seasoned performer in Serie A.

An experienced professional like Lorenzo Insigne could definitely help with his mobility in the attack. The 30-year-old forward’s contract with the Serie A club expires next summer and the veteran could be brought in as a free agent.

Insigne has been a consistent performer at the top stage for a very long time now. That being said it could take him some time to get used to the intensity and conditions in the English league should he make the switch to Chelsea. The Napoli ace would also have to fight for his place in a team that is filled with big names.

At 30, Insigne isn’t getting any younger. Thomas Tuchel could definitely use a player of his experience who is adept in out of the box thinking. Whether the deal comes to fruition or not remains to be seen.
