According to The Metro, Belgium international Romelu Lukaku is back in Chelsea training ahead of this weekend’s clash against Brentford.
This will come as good news for Thomas Tuchel who will be keen to keep his side at the top of the Premier League table. With his ace striker now back, the German will have more options in his arsenal going into the weekend.
The 28-year-old missed Belgium’s UEFA Nations League third-place playoff against Italy due to muscle fatigue. While Chelsea were confident that the issue was not serious, there were question marks regarding his availability.
They can now breathe a sigh of relief. Not only was Lukaku able to take part in training but looked sharp and did not show any issues. Having him upfront against Thomas Frank’s side could make all the difference in the world.
Whether Tuchel will risk Lukaku from the start remains to be seen. His decision could be influenced by the recent good form shown by Timo Werner.
The German striker scored in the Blues last game against Southampton and also netted for Germany in the international break. Whether he will continue his purple patch or is just experiencing a flash in the pan remains to be seen.
While Lukaku’s return is welcome, Chelsea will have to do without Antonio Rudiger. The ace defender was not pictured in training as he continues to struggle with a back issue.
With Thiago Silva also out, Tuchel will have to depend on Andreas Christensen to lead the line in defence. Whether Rudiger will go through a late fitness test remains to be seen.
N’Golo Kante was also pictured in training and should return to the lineup. The veteran Frenchman’s return will be a massive boost for Tuchel and his side.
