In what would be a timely boost for Thomas Tuchel, Chelsea superstar N’Golo Kante has returned to training earlier this week. (h/t Express)
The France international returned a positive Covid-19 test last month before Chelsea’s 1-0 loss to Juventus in their UEFA Champions League group stage game.
Since then, he has missed two games for the Blues, with the other being a 3-1 win against Southampton in the Premier League. But he is now back in training and was pictured on the field on Friday.
The 30-year-old FIFA World Cup winner with Les Bleus is arguably one of the first names on the team sheet for Thomas Tuchel. That has actually been the case for every Chelsea boss since Kante signed from Leicester City back in 2016.
Having him back would be a timely boost and he could well be back in the Chelsea squad after the international break. The report adds that Kante trained alone and away from the rest of the Chelsea players.
His positive coronavirus test also meant that he sat out of France’s historic 3-2 comeback win against Belgium in the UEFA Nations League semi-final. But for the Blues fans, their wishes would be limited to having him back in the starting XI against Brentford.
Tuchel’s men face the Bees on Saturday, 16th October as they look to win the Premier League title this season. The former Borussia Dortmund and PSG boss guided them to UEFA Champions League glory earlier this year.
But Roman Abramovich would be desperate to see his team replicate that success domestically. And if Chelsea want to compete with the best, they need to have their best players, such as Kante, available for selection on a regular basis.
