Speaking on The Ringer FC podcast (h/t Football.London), Arsenal legend Ian Wright has urged Declan Rice to stay at West Ham United amidst interest from Chelsea and Manchester United. Rice has been a wanted man ever since his successful Euro 2020 campaign for England.
The 22-year-old has been massive for West Ham in their success for far in the league. They sit in the top four of the table with 17 points from nine matches ahead of the likes of Tottenham Hotspur and Man United.
Back in the summer, it was said that the England international has less than three years left in his contract with the Hammers. Speculations have gone on to increase surrounding the player as he could look for a move elsewhere.
“West Ham are in the top-four right now but people are constantly saying Declan should leave. Declan is captain of a West Ham side in the top-four. Why should Declan move and go anywhere for the next few years when he can lead West Ham into the top-four?
However, it is claimed that the midfielder rejected two offers for renewal as he wants to assess his future options. He also wants to be informed of the interest from clubs like the Blues, the Red Devils and Manchester City.
“Of course you’re looking at Manchester United and Chelsea but why leave at the moment? He’s killing it for England, he’s killing it for West Ham. So why leave? He should stay and keep pushing West Ham.”
Thomas Tuchel’s side would be boosted by his quality in midfield if the signing is made. However, with interest from United and the uncertainty surrounding Rice’s decision, it remains to be seen where time will lead us.
