Speaking to Wetten Freunde (h/t Express), Gianluca Di Marzio has revealed that Chelsea defender Antonio Rudiger is in talks with Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur over a potential move. The defender is yet to renew his contract with the club.
Rudiger’s current contract is set to expire next year meaning he will be a free agent next summer. As a result, he will be able to legally have a pre-contract agreement with other clubs in January.
The Blues are trying their hardest to not lose their starter but the two parties have not agreed on an offer. The centre-back currently earns around £100,000-per-week but wants more than double what he earns.
It is claimed that his representatives are in talks with direct Premier League rivals Man City and Spurs. Real Madrid and Bayern Munich are also keeping an eye on his situation.
With the Blues not wanting to cross the £150,000-per-week mark due to the wage structure, the 28-year-old draws closer to leaving the club. Juventus and Paris Saint-Germain are also said to be some of the interested parties.
Earlier, Thomas Tuchel had said that he hopes that the German international will stay at the club. Speaking on the issue, he said:
“I hope that they will find the solutions. It’s not only between coaches and players and what we wish for. At the moment it is between the club, the player and the agent.”
Chelsea are expected to offer Cesar Azpilicueta a renewal and following the rise of Malang Sarr and Trevoh Chalobah, the effects of Rudiger’s departure can be minimised. This is without considering the potential arrival of Jules Kounde should Chelsea bid for him yet again.
