Manchester United legend Gary Neville believes Chelsea are serious title contendors this season

According to Metro, Manchester United legend Gary Neville believes Chelsea are serious title contenders this season after their performance this weekend against Aston Villa. The Blues, in their Premier League opener after the international break, scored three goals past Villa and secured three points with a clean sheet.

Chelsea made their biggest signing this summer, bringing Romleu Lukaku back from Inter Milan. It was followed by Saul Niguez who arrived on a loan for this season from Atletico Madrid. The Spanish midfielder was given a start by Thomas Tuchel against Villa though his performance was unconvincing. Lukaku, however, scored twice against Villa at home ensuring the team are in the race to win the title alongside United, Man City and Liverpool.

Lukaku was back on the scoresheet for Chelsea at home against Aston Villa.

This performance by Chelsea saw them garner praise from Manchester United legend Gary Neville. Speaking via the Gary Neville Podcast (h/t Metro) he said:

“It was interesting because I’d expect Manchester United to beat Newcastle the way in which they did- with tr without Ronaldo, But then I went home from Salford to watch the Chelsea-Villa game and Villa played well, and Villa are a decent side, but Chelsea again, just like robotic, methodical.

“They’re going to be very difficult to stop. The talk will all be about Manchester – Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City, Cristiano Ronaldo’s Manchester United- but Chelsea I think everyone knows they’re serious.”

After winning the Champions League last season, Thomas Tuchel has set his eyes on Premier League this term. With the arrival of Lukaku from Inter, they are now seen as serious contenders to challenge for the Premier League title according to Gary Neville. The Chelsea team remains unbeaten with the result this weekend, collecting a total of ten points out of twelve available.

Chelsea with Romelu Lukaku are serious title contenders.
