Thomas Tuchel admits it is hard to ‘not play’ Chelsea star Mason Mount

Speaking in an interview (h/t Chelseafc.com), Thomas Tuchel has admitted that he feels worried to play Chelsea ace Mason Mount sometimes due to his workload.

Mount broke into the Chelsea set up back in the 2019/20 season under Frank Lampard after the club were hit with a transfer ban and also lost the services of Eden Hazard. The English manager put a lot of faith in Mount that season as he made 53 appearances for the Blues that term, including featuring in 37 out of a possible 38 league games.

The 22-year-old repaid the faith as he played a pivotal role in helping the club to an FA Cup final and Top 4 finish. Nothing changed last season, as both Lampard and Tuchel actively used the Englishman’s services throughout the season as the youngster racked up another 54 appearances and won the Champions League with his boyhood club.

His performances led to a place in the England squad, and Mount made another 5 appearances there. Tuchel has now addressed the issue of the amount of load he puts on the Englishman. He said (h/t Chelseafc.com):

“Sometimes we are a bit worried, but on the other side, he (Mount) seems to deal so good with all the minutes and all the load that he has that it’s sometimes very hard to leave him out because he looks fresh, he comes with a smile.

“I would be more concerned if his face was straight and you feel some fatigue also mentally, but I don’t feel it. We are happy that he’s here, and we will be careful like always with him.’
