Chelsea will be without Thiago Silva against Aston Villa following a FIFA Ban

According to Evening Standard, Chelsea are to be without Thiago Silva for the clash against Aston Villa this weekend. FIFA has invoked bans on Brazilian players who did not travel to report for international duty.

The Brazilian FA has asked FIFA to invoke the rules against the clubs for not allowing the players to travel during the international break. The ban mandates five days of restriction for the players, which means Thiago Silva will not be available for the Blues against Aston Villa.

Thiago Silva is set to miss this weekend’s fixture against Aston Villa following the FIFA Ban.

FIFA has informed the clubs who are to be affected by these restrictions as well as the FA. Silva is amongst those eight players who are set to miss out on the weekend clash in the Premier League, followed by a European fixture against Zenit on Tuesday night.

The restrictions are set to come into play from September 10th- 14th meaning Thiago Silva will miss this weekend’s Premier League fixture against Aston Villa and possibly Tuesday’s opening UEFA Champions League fixture against Zenit at home.

Thiago Silva was not allowed to travel for international duty by Chelsea.

Apart from Thiago Silva, Liverpool‘s trio of Roberto Firmino, Alisson & Fabinho are also set to miss out on the weekend fixtures for their club. Under the FIFA regulations, the clubs are obliged to release the players for international duty unless there is a prior agreement between the club and the national association.

If the Premier League clubs ignore the restrictions and play their players regardless then, under article 22 of FIFA’s disciplinary code, they could have to abandon the match with a scoreline of 3-0. The Blues have an impressive defensive lineup despite losing Kurt Zouma, Marc Guehi, and Fikayo Tomori this summer. And so, missing Silva for a couple of games may not be the biggest blow in the world for Tuchel.
