Speaking to Betfair (h/t The Metro), Brazilian legend Rivaldo has expressed his happiness over the performances of Thiago Silva for Chelsea.
The centre-back signed for the Blues on a free transfer last summer from Paris Saint Germain. This was an admirable move as the Brazilian was ready to compete in such a physical league at the age of 35.
Although he had a stuttering debut against West Brom last season, he has not looked back and has gone to play a vital role in the club’s success in the last few months.
The arrival of Silva’s ex PSG boss Thomas Tuchel worked out well for him, and the recently turned 37-year-old has continued his brilliant performances into the current season as well.
This has led to former Brazilian forward Rivaldo expressing how happy he is with his fellow countryman’s abilities despite being on the wrong side of 30. He also explained how this would be good for Brazil in next year’s World Cup in Qatar. Rivaldo told Betfair (h/t The Metro):
‘It’s a joy to see Thiago Silva playing so well for Chelsea in the best league in the world…With the quality and class Silva is showing in a tough competition, it wouldn’t surprise me to see him playing for Brazil at the Qatar World Cup in 2022.
‘His experience would be a bonus for the team. He is used to facing some of the best strikers in the world regularly, which could be crucial for Brazil in decisive moments of the World Cup next year.’
The centre-back was crucial in the West London’s club recent derby win against Tottenham as he scored the first goal of the game and also kept a clean sheet. With Silva not slowing down any soon, Tuchel would be backing his veteran defender to guide him to Premier League glory this year.
