“I’m waiting”- PL legend believes Chelsea are ‘carrying’ expensive German duo this season

Michael Owen has huge doubts over Chelsea duo Timo Werner and Kai Havertz

Speaking to Premier League productions (h/t The Metro), Michael Owen feels Chelsea are ‘carrying’ the likes of Timo Werner and Kai Havertz. 

The Blues won their 4th Premier League game of the season after a massive 3-0 victory against Tottenham Hotspur. After a pale first-half performance, the West London club rose to the occasion in the second half as goals from Thiago Silva, N’Golo Kante & Antonio Rudiger led Chelsea to the top of the table.

It has been an impressive run of victories by Thomas Tuchel and co, but two players who are yet to prove their goal-scoring feats are Timo Werner and Kai Havertz. Werner arrived from Leipzig last season for £47.5million while Havertz made the move from Leverkusen for £71million, which is by no means a small fee.

Both players were part of the Champions League-winning side last season, with the former also scoring the winner in the final.

However, Liverpool legend Michael Owen believes he does not understand why the German duo are being fielded by fellow countryman Tuchel. Owen told Premier League productions (h/t The Metro):

“They’re actually carrying one or two players that aren’t really hitting it off; Werner’s not been a good signing as of yet, question marks about Havertz, he keeps playing him, but I’m waiting to see him put in some really good performances. So there’s still a couple of players you expect to see a bit more out of, but even without them, they are just steamrolling.”

The former Bayer Leverkusen man has scored an important goal against Liverpool this season. And while Werner has suffered for game-time, he did come up with an assist for the last goal against Tottenham on the weekend.

Although they have not found their feet just yet, Tuchel might not be all too worried about it as his team is still pulling off the required results as the Blues look to challenge on all fronts this season.
