According to Sports Mediaset (h/t Express), Romelu Lukaku has made the suggestion for Chelsea to make moves for Inter Milan defenders, Milan Skriniar and Alessandro Bastoni. Chelsea were on the lookout to sign defenders this summer but failed in their attempts to do so.
The Premier League giants did manage to get Romelu Lukaku from Inter Milan, thus ensuring their requirements for a No.9 were met. However, similar reinforcements were needed in the defensive ranks and despite the club’s hard-fought efforts, they failed to land their target Juels Kounde at Stamford Bridge.
Not only the Blues missed out on Kounde, but they also saw Kurt Zouma depart the club this summer who joined West Ham. This would have not been the conclusion Chelsea hoped for this summer. However, the Blues are considering a move in the January transfer window for a new defender.
In their bid to sign a new defender it has been reported that Lukaku has made the suggestion of Inter Milan defenders Skriniar and Bastoni. Both the players are regular at Inter Milan and were instrumental in Serie A winning campaign last season. Skriniar played a total of 39 times in all competition for the Italian giants last season, while Bastoni made a total of 41 appearances.
Skriniar has started all three games for Inter in Serie A this term, while Bastoni missed the game against Sampdoria this weekend. Both the defenders are key for players for their team and Inter would want to keep a hold of them as long as they can.
Even if the Blues attract either of the defenders, they would have to play a hefty sum for them. This again brings them to the same crossroads they were with Sevilla for Kounde. However, it would be interesting to see Chelsea make a move for either of the Inter Milan defenders in January.
