Speaking on Sky Sports (h/t football.london), Gary Neville has claimed that Chelsea could be the team to beat to win the Premier League title this season.
The Blues, who won the Champions League under Thomas Tuchel last season, strengthened considerably this summer by adding in the likes of Romelu Lukaku and Saul Niguez. While the latter is yet to show his abilities on the pitch, Lukaku has scored 3 Premier League goals in 4 games and was unlucky to get one against Tottenham on the weekend.
However, it has not just been a one-man performance by the Blues who have only conceded one goal this season, and even that was a penalty scored by Mo Salah at Anfield.
Thus, the Blues look like a well-drilled team, and the fact that they have quality deputies in nearly every area on the pitch could help them launch a title challenge this season.
Gary Neville, however, claims that the West London club will be the team to beat if the likes of Liverpool, Manchester City, and Manchester United are to win the Premier League title. He told Sky Sports (h/t football.london):
“If you’re Manchester City, Manchester United, Liverpool, any other team who’s got aspirations of winning this title, you’d fancy your chances if you finished above this Chelsea team because they look really, really good.”
While this is the case, Chelsea’s rivals are not too far behind, with Liverpool and Manchester United on level points with them. Although Manchester City are 3 points off the top of the table, they are the reigning champions, and one would not rule out a Pep Guardiola team.
However, Tuchel will be hoping that his team can continue the good performances and bring home the Premier League trophy back to Stamford Bridge.
