Transfer News: Chelsea made a huge offer to sign Franck Kessie from AC Milan

According to SportMediaset via Calciomercato (h/t football.london), Chelsea registered a sensational bid for AC Milan midfielder Franck Kessie.

The Blues, who recently added to their midfield options by signing Saul Niguez from Atletico Madrid on a loan deal, were looking to add a midfielder during the transfer window.

Apart from the Spaniard, the Stamford Bridge outfit currently possess the likes of Mateo Kovacic, Jorginho, and N’Golo Kante and now might need an additional central midfielder given the age of the latter duo.

With N’Golo Kante and Jorginho both turning 30 this year, the Blues should look to add a more youthful approach in the centre of the pitch. The West London club’s only two youth prospects in midfield right now are Billy Gilmour and Conor Gallagher, who are out on loan at Norwich City and Crystal Palace respectively.

And the Blues made an incredible offer to sign Franck Kessie from AC Milan as the Ivorian only has 12 months left on his contract. The London club offered the midfielder a salary of €8million (£6.9million) net per year.

However, the Stamford Bridge outfit were not the only club in the race to sign the Ivorian as Paris Saint-Germain were also said to have provided a salary package worth a little higher than Chelsea’s offer.

The 24-year-old is said to have rejected a contract at the San Siro outfit and the Blues could be open to orchestrating a move for the Milan man in January itself, according to TuttoSport (h/t The Sun).

If a deal cannot be met between AC Milan and Kessie in the next four months, the 24-year-old will be allowed to talk to foreign clubs over a potential move next summer.

The Blues would be hoping to be frontrunners to sign the Ivorian as they would be looking to bolster their midfield options.
