According to news from Ian McGarry on the Transfer Window Podcast (h/t Express), Tottenham are planning to move for Chelsea ace Tammy Abraham in case Harry Kane leaves. Spurs are keeping strikers lined up in the event that the England captain departs the club and out-of-favour Blues’ man Abraham is a name they have shown interest in.
Abraham has had quite the two seasons at Chelsea. Once trusted to lead the line, the English striker now finds himself looking towards an exit from the club. A favourite of Frank Lampard’s, Abraham hardly enjoyed the same level of confidence from Thomas Tuchel. It has become a common sight to see the academy graduate warming the benches over the last few months.
If Olivier Giroud’s departure gave some hope, Romelu Lukaku’s imminent arrival quashed that. With the latter’s arrival, Abraham is sure to find himself further away from the action than it has been. However, interest in the player seems to be quite high with Tottenham now joining the race.
Spurs are slowly coming to the realization that Harry Kane is very likely to leave the club and contingency plans need to be kept. While Lautaro Martinez is a name that has appealed, Nuno Espirito Santo is said to be an admirer of Abraham. It is understood that the Blues would be open to a loan-to-buy offer of £35m for Abraham.
Chelsea could honestly use some influx of funds after the club-record deal for Romelu Lukaku. Tammy Abraham is one of the more sellable assets at the club who can fetch a decent sum from suitors such as Spurs. While it would result in strengthening a direct rival, it wouldn’t hurt Chelsea that much if they can get the aforementioned amount for him.
