According to transfer news from The Athletic (Subscription Required) [h/t Express], Chelsea are not interested in signing Adama Traore. The Blues are actually not in the market for a wingback and hence, they won’t be going after the Wolves man.
Much like the other top clubs in England, Chelsea have landed their marquee signing of the summer. Romelu Lukaku rejoins the club after seven years in a deal worth £97million. However, Chelsea and Thomas Tuchel are believed to have more targets to sign over the remainder of the transfer window but getting those names have been rather difficult.
One of the names Chelsea have long been linked with is Adama Traore. The speedy winger from Wolves had his future thrown into speculation after the departure of Nuno Espirito Santo. Interest from the Premier League has been there with Chelsea and more recently, Liverpool and Leeds United.
However, it seems like Chelsea are not going to pursue the Spaniard. Thomas Tuchel’s side is actually not after wingbacks anymore (h/t Express). The German manager feels like he has enough players who can chip in with that role. Callum Hudson-Odoi, Reece James and Cesar Azpilicueta have all played there and if none of them are available, Tuchel can call upon Dujon Sterling from the youth team.
Perhaps Chelsea are making the right call in not pursuing the Wolves wide man. There are surely more than enough quality options for Tuchel to use and bringing in another player might have been a waste of funds. Instead, Chelsea can now focus their time and money on other possible and necessary targets.
