Transfer News: Chelsea can only sign Saul Niguez on deadline day under specific conditions

According to transfer news on deadline day Kaveh Solhekol of Sky Sports, Chelsea can only sign Saul Niguez under specific conditions. Atletico Madrid will only allow Saul to leave if they can sign a replacement midfielder. While they did sign Rodrigo De Paul, they want Pablo Sarabia as well.

Over the weekend, Chelsea’s apparent need for a new midfielder grew as N’Golo Kante was taken off injured against Liverpool. Without Kante, there are not many names that can put in a shift alongside Jorginho or Mateo Kovacic. That means efforts to sign Saul Niguez were ramped up heading into deadline day.

Chelsea’s interest in Saul is nothing new with the player being linked to the club during various points of this summer. However, any deal has looked far from straightforward. Atleti had demands regarding Saul that Chelsea include an obligation to buy clause in the loan deal which somewhat put this deal beyond happening.

However, with all hope looking lost on this front, journalist Kaveh Solhekol provided one last update under which conditions Chelsea can get their man. Atleti want a replacement for Saul and while they did sign De Paul, they want Pablo Sarabia of PSG. Unless the latter arrives, Saul will likely be remaining at the club.

This deal looks way too complicated for Chelsea at this point, especially on deadline day, and to be frank, it’s not really in their hands. It’s not known whether they get Sarabia which puts a huge question mark on Saul. in all likelihood, some wonder will be needed if both deals go through, each enabling the other and that too within the handful of hours remaining.
