According to transfer news from Express, Burnley are making a late effort to get Chelsea outcast Ross Barkley into their squad on deadline day. However, with so little time left and his wages to cover, this deal could be very complicated and difficult to pull off.
Ross Barkley has had quite the fall from grace since his move to Chelsea. Once seen as a bright prospect at Everton, his move has not gone according to plan at all. It’s not that he has played badly for Chelsea but the fact is that he has not reproduced the form he showed at Everton that made Chelsea go after him.
Last season, he was allowed to leave on loan to Aston Villa. After an impressive start, he went off the radar in the latter stages of the season. With such a low output in terms of goals, Villa did not take up the option to sign him on a permanent deal. That meant he was back at Chelsea for the preseason.
However, he is not a part of the plans for Tuchel and the Blues are keen to offload him. Burnley have come in with a last-ditch offer to take him off the club’s hands. However, Barkley’s substantial wages of £100,000 per week and Chelsea’s demand for a loan fee might make the deal a little too difficult for Burnley to complete in time.
Chelsea would actually prefer to get Barkley off their books permanently but at this point could take what comes. This loan deal looks difficult for many reasons but there is still a chance it goes through in the remaining hours of the deadline day.
