Transfer News: Thomas Tuchel wants Chelsea to sign a striker

According to transfer news from Independent, Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel wants a new striker in his side. The German spoke about wanting a player in the ilk of the departed Olivier Giroud as the likes of Timo Werner, Tammy Abraham and Kai Havertz are different from him.

Chelsea have been unusually quiet over the transfer window. The Blues’s activity during this summer has largely focused on outgoings in a bid to reduce their bloated squad size. A host of names such as Fikayo Tomori, Olivier Giroud, Tino Livramento, Victor Moses, etc, have left the club already.

The only arrival at the club has been that of potentially third-choice keeper Marcus Bettinelli to replace the departing Willy Caballero. Nonetheless, Chelsea have been linked with a move for Romelu Lukaku now. From the looks of it, a deal might just be on the cards.

Thomas Tuchel, who has been relatively calm over the last of transfers, has actually spoken about wanting a new number nine. He wants someone who has a playing style similar to Giroud.

“I think with the exit from Olivier Giroud from the type of players we could use a player used to playing with their back to goal, whose strength is to keep possession from long balls, so we can add this direct style of play to our portfolio. This is the characteristic of player that is not Tammy (Abraham), Timo (Werner) or Kai (Havertz) so this is a profile we don’t have in the squad and could be useful but not for any cost and not hectic or in panic.

It’s true that Chelsea could use a prolific scorer to increase their output in front of goal. The pursuit for Lukaku does make sense in that regard. Chelsea should not let Tuchel go into the season without a proper number nine. Last season was evidence enough that the side can do wonders if a ruthless goalscorer is added up front.
