Transfer News: Chelsea exit-linked Tammy Abraham agrees to join Roma

According to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea ace Tammy Abraham is set to leave the club this summer after agreeing on personal terms with Italian giants AS Roma.

The 23-year-old, who has featured rarely in Thomas Tuchel’s reign at the club, is nearing a permanent exit after agreeing to personal terms with the Italian outfit. Former Blues boss Jose Mourinho was keen on a move for the striker, and it looks like a move will now finally materialize with Chelsea receiving €40million for the player.

Fabrizio Romano’s entire tweet read:

“Tammy Abraham will fly to Rome on Sunday to undergo medical tests, sign the contract and complete his move to AS Roma. Deal to be announced in the next few days. #ASRoma #CFC

“Personal terms agreed. €40m to Chelsea and NO Arsenal for Tammy. Here-we-go.”

The 23-year-old English international is also set to undergo a medical before he signs a five-year contract worth £4m a year after tax. While there were talks that Abraham was waiting on an offer from English rivals Arsenal, Roma general manager Tiago Pinto had a meeting with the forward on Monday and convinced the player that he would be an integral part of Jose Mourinho’s plans at the Italian club this season.

Abraham broke into the Chelsea squad in the 2019/20 season after the club lost Eden Hazard and were slapped with a transfer ban. Then the manager Frank Lampard trusted Abraham, and the player repaid the faith as he scored fifteen goals in the league and helped the Blues to a fourth-place finish.

However, despite being the club’s joint-top scorer last season with 12 goals, Abraham’s game-time has been limited under new boss Thomas Tuchel and it could decrease further this season after the £97.5million arrival of Romelu Lukaku.

Thus, this would be a good-bye for one of Chelsea’s very own, but the club have been smart of including a buy-back clause, indicating that there could be a future for the player at the club someday.
