Transfer News: London rivals set to pip Chelsea in the race for 25-year-old Spanish winger

Chelsea suffer blow in the race to sign Adama Traore this summer

According to Diario AS (h/t football.london), Chelsea are facing the prospect of losing out on signing Adama Traore as Tottenham are ready to table a bid for the Spaniard.

The Blues have been on the lookout for a wing-back this summer, with the club also eyeing a deal for Achraf Hakimi initially. However, the Moroccan decided to join Paris Saint-Germain instead, leaving the Blues to scout the market for another talent.

The club have now been targeting Wolves winger Adam Traore, who is known for his lightning-fast runs. The Spaniard featured heavily for the Midlands club last year as he made 41 appearances in all competitions and managed to score 3 goals and provide a further 3 assists in that period.

However, signing the 25-year-old has not been easy as London rivals Tottenham have also been interested in signing the player with Nuno Espirito Santo keen on reuniting with the winger at Spurs.

Moreover, according to Diario AS (h/t football.london), Tottenham are also ready to table an offer in the region of €40million for Traore, which is the price tag set by Wolves for the winger.

This would be a blow for Chelsea as they have been on the lookout for a wing-back this summer, and given the Spaniard’s talent, he could have been a useful addition. Although the West London outfit do have the likes of Reece James, Cesar Azpilicueta, Davide Zappacosta in the right-wing-back role, that may not be the case by the end of the month.

Zappacosta could be leaving the club soon as both Fiorentina and Atalanta have been interested in the player while both James and Azpilicueta featured in the centre-back roles for the club towards the end of last season. Although the duo can play in that attacking right-back role, having a natural wing-back wouldn’t hurt the club’s chances at silverware this season.

Thus, the Blues might have to shift their focus elsewhere and move fast if they hope to sign a wing-back by the end of the month.
