Transfer News: Manchester City enter race for Chelsea target Caglar Soyuncu

According to a report by Turkish outlet Ajansspor (h/t Leicestershire Live), Manchester City are ‘seriously interested’ in a deal for Chelsea transfer target, Caglar Soyuncu.

Leicester City are said to consider bids between £43.1million and £51.7million for their central defender. Another Turkish publication Posta (h/t Leicestershire Live) claim that City are best placed to sign Soyuncu, who wants to stay in England.

The Turkish international joined the Foxes from Freiburg all the way back in 2018. In the past couple of seasons, the 25-year-old has impressed and is now on the radar of several top clubs in the continent.

Apart from Chelsea and Manchester City, the report also links him with Real Madrid, Manchester United, PSG, and Barcelona. The Blues should be in the market for a central defender despite winning the UEFA Champions League.

Battle for Soyuncu

Thiago Silva is not getting any younger at 36, and the Brazilian, alongside Antonio Rudiger, Andreas Christensen, and Cesar Azpilicueta, is in the final year of his contract at Stamford Bridge as of now. (h/t ESPN)

Soyuncu presents himself as a viable option, having Premier League experience and being of a considerably younger age than some of their current defenders. But City’s interest would be bad news for the Blues.

Chelsea won the Champions League but would want to translate that success in the domestic sphere next season. One of their direct rivals for silverware would be City, who would undoubtedly be stronger with Soyuncu’s potential acquisition.

More Chelsea News:

But even if they do end up missing out on the Turkish defender, Thomas Tuchel should not stop looking for a centre-back. The club can do with depth, especially after the knowledge that a number of their defenders are in the last year of their contract while Fikayo Tomori is off to AC Milan.
