Brentford join West Brom in race to sign Chelsea starlet Trevoh Chalobah

According to the Express & Star, Chelsea midfielder Trevoh Chalobah seems to be a man in demand this summer, with Brentford joining West Bromwich Albion in the race to sign him.

Chalobah is a product of the Chelsea youth academy and has been on the club’s books way back since 2007 when he was an eight-year-old. Having risen through the ranks at Cobham, the 22-year-old midfielder has featured in plenty for the Blues’ Under-18 and the Under-23 sides but has never made a first-team appearance.

Chalobah has been farmed out on loan for the past three seasons in row, having spent the 2018/19 term with Ipswich Town before signing for Huddersfield Town for 2019/20. The defensive midfielder was loaned out to French club FC Lorient for the 2020/21 campaign where he impressed quite a fair bit, scoring and assisting two goals each in 30 games.

Back at Chelsea after his loan spell, Chalobah has been made available for a transfer by manager Thomas Tuchel. While Lorient are said to be interested in a permanent deal for the 22-year-old, he is believed to be keen on staying in England, with West Brom now in the lead for his transfer. However, the Baggies are now set to face added competition from Brentford in pursuit of the Chelsea academy product. The Bees earned promotion to the Premier League via the playoffs and are looking to bolster their squad for their journey in the top-flight, with Chalobah emerging as a target.

In addition to the aforementioned three clubs, Chalobah is also said to be courting serious interest from clubs in Germany.

More Chelsea News:

It seems set in stone that Chalobah will be leaving Chelsea this summer. What remains to be seen is if he ends up moving down to the Championship with West Brom or stays in the Premier League with Brentford, or decides to switch countries altogether.
