Agent of Jorginho hints at Chelsea exit if new contract not offered

Speaking to Radio CRC (h/t Football.london), Joao Santos, the agent of Chelsea midfielder Jorginho has hinted that the Italy star could return to Serie A if he is not offered a new contract.

Jorginho arrived at Chelsea in the summer of 2018 from Serie A side Napoli and has become an integral member of the team over the last three seasons. Having won the UEFA Europa League in his debut season at the Bridge, the midfielder essayed a prominent role in the club’s Champions League triumph in the season gone by.

Currently away on international duty with Italy at the UEFA Euro 2020 where he has been thriving, Jorginho has seen his stock rise a great deal.

And now, his agent, Santos has claimed that the Blues’ midfielder wants to sign a new contract at Chelsea. But should that not be forthcoming, a return to Serie A could be considered. (h/t Football.london)

“Jorginho won the Champions League and has now become a strong point in Italy too. He has earned everything on the pitch, sweating every victory, always giving his all on the pitch. He wants to extend his contract with the English club, but, if he cannot do it, he’ll think about returning to Serie A, perhaps at Napoli.”

Jorginho, to date, has managed 141 appearances for Chelsea, scoring 17 goals in the process. The midfielder was the Blues’ leading goalscorer in the 2020/21 Premier League with seven strikes – all of which came from the penalty spot.

Jorginho’s current contract with Chelsea runs till the summer of 2023. A key player under each of the managers that he has played under, the Italian has plenty left to offer at the Bridge. It remains to be seen if the Blues are willing to hand him a new and improved deal or whether the 29-year-old ends up seeking a return to Italy in the near future.
