According to transfer news from Daily Star, Napoli star Lorenzo Insigne has emerged as a potential target for Chelsea. Tottenham and Arsenal are also said to be interested in the diminutive forward.
Insigne, the captain of Napoli, has made 397 appearances for the club, bagging 109 goals and creating 85 more. A left-winger by trade, the Italy international had been in fine form the last term, having racked up a tally of 19 goals and 11 assists in all competitions. (h/t Transfermarkt)
Insigne has carried on that fine form into the Euros for Italy. He featured in two of the opening games and performed rather well in them, scoring against Turkey. He has been a reliable presence on the left side for club and country over the years.
The problem for Napoli is that Insigne’s contract ends in 2022. There have not been any talks over an extension meaning that there could be a good chance Napoli have to sell their star man. Chelsea, along with their London rivals, have been touted as potential destinations for the Italian.
It’s not entirely necessary that Chelsea sign a new winger this summer. The club already have a good few attackers up their sleeve. However, Insigne is a quality player and with his contract running out in a year, Chelsea could just get a chance to sign him for a cut-price deal.
