Transfer News: Chelsea youngster Conor Gallagher eyed by Crystal Palace

According to exclusive transfer news from The Sun, Chelsea youngster, Conor Gallagher has emerged as a target for fellow London outfit Crystal Palace in the summer window.

The 21-year-old Gallagher has been on the books of the club since 2008 and has progressed well through the youth ranks. Having impressed with the Chelsea U23s in 2018/19, he was loaned out to Charlton Athletic for the first half of the 2019/20 season. He spent the second half at Swansea City, where he played a key role in their playoff finish.

Upon returning to Chelsea last summer, Gallagher was once again sent out on loan, this time in the Premier League with West Bromwich Albion. And while the Baggies may have gotten relegated, the 21-year-old made a solid impression during his time at the Hawthorns.

Conor Gallagher is amongst the best young talents at Chelsea

Gallagher ended his debut season in the Premier League with 30 appearances in which he managed two goals and two assists apiece. Now set to come back to Chelsea, the 21-year-old is attracting plenty of interest from the Premier League, with Crystal Palace now lining up a summer swoop for him. (h/t The Sun)

The report states that the Eagles had tried to sign Gallagher last summer as well but instead decided to move for Michy Batshuayi. And even though they are currently without a manager, Palace are intent on signing the England Under-21 international. To that end, they are even plotting an offer of £15m.

Gallagher, for his part, wants to remain at Chelsea under Thomas Tuchel. However, Palace remain interested and could further be boosted by appointing either Frank Lampard or Swansea City’s Steve Cooper as their next manager. (h/t The Sun)

More Chelsea News:

Gallagher has shown that he has the talent to cut it out at this level. However, with game-time likely to come at a premium at the Bridge, perhaps another year on loan would be the best way to go forward.
