Chelsea midfielder, Marco van Ginkel, posted an emotional farewell message on his Instagram account earlier this weekend as he prepares to depart the club.
The Dutch midfielder, as per a report by the Daily Mail and covered by ASBTF, was one of the seven players released by Chelsea earlier this month. This brings an eight-year-long stay to an end.
The 28-year-old was signed in 2013 from Vitesse with great expectations. However, things went awry real quick as injury issues continued to haunt him.
He also never managed to find his footing at the Bridge and made just two starts for the club throughout his long stay. In that time, he was loaned out to Stoke City, AC Milan, as well as PSV Eindhoven.
It is clear that he had no future at Chelsea and it is best for all parties that he moved on. The Dutchman failed to live up to his potential at Stamford Bridge but still has a number of years in front of him.
He gradually became a forgotten name – alongside many others – that joined Chelsea as youngsters but saw their spell in London riddled with loan spells away from the Bridge.
Chelsea fans would wish him well for whichever club he joins next and hope he can resurrect his career with a fresh move. As for the Blues, they are already loaded with a number of options in midfield.
Jorginho, N’Golo Kante, and Mateo Kovacic all shared game-time in the heart of Chelsea’s midfield this past season as they won the UEFA Champions League. Apart from them, Thomas Tuchel also has the young Billy Gilmour as well as Mason Mount.
