Fans praise Chelsea star Jorginho as he guides Italy to a UEFA Euro 2020 last-16 win vs Austria

Jorginho lined up for Italy in the heart of their midfield as they faced Austria in the last 16 of the UEFA Euro 2020 on Saturday. The Italians have been imperious in the tournament.

They won all their games in the group stage while keeping a clean sheet, and for this reason, were seen by many as favourites against the Austrians. However, the match turned out to be closer than anticipated.

The game entered into extra time as the deadlock could not be broken during regular time. Austria managed a goal just around the hour mark but it was chalked off by VAR.

Nevertheless, it was Italy who took the lead some 5 minutes into extra time. Federico Chiesa showed his quality as he brought the cross under control and smashed in a deadly left-footed shot.

Jorginho leads Italy to last-8

Matteo Pessina then doubled their lead 10 minutes later. Austria had a lifeline when forward Sasa Kalajdzic sneaked in a header 6 minutes from time, but that proved to be just a consolation goal as the game finished 2-1.

Jorginho played the whole 120 minutes and was imperious in midfield. The 29-year-old looked sure in possession and was at the heart of Italy’s midfield activity.

The Chelsea midfielder is on the back of a brilliant season under Thomas Tuchel and has taken his form into the UEFA Euros, playing an important role in all 4 of Gli Azzurri‘s victories.

And the Blues faithful were full of praise for the former Napoli man. They took to Twitter to showcase their support for Jorginho and congratulate the midfielder for making the quarter-finals.
