Transfer News: Chelsea still have a chance to sign Gianluigi Donnarumma

According to transfer news from Daily Mail, Chelsea still have a chance to sign Gianluigi Donnarumma. The Italian goalkeeper has put contract talks on hold with AC Milan as he wants to play Champions League football next season.

Donnarumma has been in the news, with his contract set to end this season and no extension being agreed. That attracted the attention of clubs like Manchester United and Chelsea, who wanted to sign the keeper on a free transfer at the end of the season.

Contract talks had been dragging on to the point that it was almost the case that he would be leaving Milan. Chelsea were waiting to snap him up in that scenario. Earlier, it had been reported that Donnarumma would not be leaving the club as a new deal was close to being agreed upon.

However, Daily Mail has now reported that the keeper has put contract talks on hold as he wants to play in the Champions League next season. Milan are currently in 5th place but have a slim chance of making it through for next year. However, Chelsea have a good chance of securing the same as they are fourth in the league.

The Italian international has already established himself as one of the best goalkeepers in the world. The fact that he has done it at such an early age is even more impressive. It also means that he is still not a finished product. After all, the Italian stopper is just 22 years old and has 246 appearances so far for Il Rossoneri.

The Blues have thrown big money on keepers in the last few seasons, with Kepa and Edouard Mendy arriving at the Bridge. While Mendy is the first-choice now, Donnarumma would be the first choice for the next 8-10 years if he signs.
