According to news from Daily Mail, Thomas Tuchel has admitted that Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich has not contacted him after the European Super League (ESL) fiasco. Tuchel claimed that there was no communication from Abramovich regarding Chelsea’s participation and subsequent pull-out.
Chelsea were a part of 12 clubs that formed the ESL. The idea was that 15-18 of the elite clubs in Europe would form a closed league and play each other. That would in turn generate more viewership and revenue. However, the plan failed to take off as most of the clubs pulled out within 48 hours of the inception, one by one.
With no top-level spokesperson available for a comment, naturally, Thomas Tuchel had to face the brunt of the questions. He did the best he could to deflect those. Fans were also seen outside Stamford Bridge ahead of Chelsea withdrawing from the ESL.
Now, with the situation somewhat under control, Tuchel has spoken out about the communication gap that was there.
‘I have not spoken to the owner since I arrived which is absolutely not a problem but I was in a dialogue with the club before and after the match and so i was informed that we were pulling out and that was pretty much all I needed to prepare the next match against West Ham. But it’s all already in the past and I don’t think they need to apologise to me.’
For now, Chelsea will need to concentrate on finishing the season on a high. They are well poised to finish in the top four, scheduled to play the Champions League semi-finals as well as the FA Cup final. Tuchel cannot afford to have any more off-field distractions like the situation ahead of the Brighton game.
