In some bit of good news from The Guardian, Chelsea are having second thoughts about the European Super League. Along with the Blues, Manchester City are also said to be doubtful of the whole idea of the ESL.
At a time when European Football is still reeling from the news of a breakaway ESL involving the 12 elite clubs on European football, some relief can be enjoyed by the fans. A prominent source, who is an executive at one of the clubs approached for the ESL, has said that Man City and Chelsea are wavering on this decision.
There has been considerable pressure from all corners on the clubs as fans and pundits continue their backlash. Gary Neville launched a passionate rant, Football Associations have promised sanctions while even Prime Minister Boris Johnson spoke about the issue.
It is understood that less than half the 12 sides are actually hell-bent on pushing this ESL idea and bringing it to fruition. The remaining clubs have agreed along so as to not get left behind from the money train. Chelsea and City are thought to be among the latter group.
Pressure is mounting from all ends on the flagbearers of the ESL. It is understandable that Chelsea would want to recoup the losses of the pandemic via this ESL but what is essentially a move against football as we know it. Things are still unclear as to how this will turn out with both sides throwing punches.
