Thomas Tuchel has fired a warning to his Chelsea forwards that they need to start delivering the goals soon (h/t The Sun). Last weekend’s goalless draw against Leeds United meant that Chelsea have only scored a measly 13 goals in 12 games under Tuchel.
While the defence has looked spectacular, it has come at a cost with goals drying up at the other end. It has come to the point where Mason Mount and Jorginho, two midfielders, have 6 goals between them.
With a crucial second leg to be played later today, Thomas Tuchel has thrown a word of warning to the strikers.
“We create enough chances and half-chances to win games. We had by far enough chances, touches in the box and deliveries against Leeds to win this game comfortably with two goals. If you arrive at elite football at the highest level then there is no time to perform.
The time simply doesn’t exist. You are simply in a competition with other players in your team. There is no time to get four or five matches in a row to score regularly. That simply does not exist.”
It has been a sorry plight for each of the strikers at the club. They have a paltry three goals since Tuchel’s arrival. New man Timo Werner has had a very rough patch, with his form still not picking up.
Tuchel added that his shuffling of the strikers on a regular basis might be the reason for this. However, with all other areas of the pitch working in tandem, Tuchel will need at least one of his frontmen to step up and start firing in the goals.
