Speaking to Forbes (h/t Metro), Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich defended the sacking of Frank Lampard by speaking out on his goals. The Blues icon was appointed as manager in 2019 after Maurizio Sarri but lasted only a season and a half, getting sacked in January.
Thomas Tuchel was the 15th managerial appointment under Roman Abramovich and since taking over, Chelsea have remained unbeaten. Abramovich spoke about the club’s vision being the reason behind the sacking of Frank Lampard.
‘I think we are pragmatic in our choices. And we are comfortable making the right changes at the right time to ensure we can achieve our long-term ambitions.
I hope it also says something about the clarity of the long-term ambition of the club. Those who join understand the objectives both on the pitch, as well as the wider positive role the club plays in the community.’
While this has been a huge sticking point for critics, the fact remains that Chelsea have been the most successful club in England since the Russian has taken over. The Blues have won 16 major trophies since 2003. The closest is Manchester United with 13.
It is a policy that has worked well for the club and hence it has been followed. Chelsea have taken swift actions to control the situation and it has paid off handsomely. The club are undeterred in their methods to achieve their goals.
