According to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea are still working on a contract extension for Thiago Silva. The veteran Brazilian has become an important part of the side since his arrival from PSG this season.
The 36-year-old joined Chelsea this summer and despite his age, has seamlessly adapted to the fast-paced nature of the Premier League. He has already played more than 20 games this season. However, he did miss a few with injuries as Andreas Christensen took over in the interim.
Currently, the former PSG man finds himself on the sidelines with a hamstring issue but talks of a contract are underway. The 36-year-old has a one-year extension in his contract which can be triggered by mutual agreement.
Silva’s experience and leadership is visible on the pitch, and Chelsea look a far more secure side with him in the line-up. Chelsea have kept 9 league clean sheets out of the 17 games he has played in so far.
Silva has won trophies everywhere he has played and his winning mentality is just what the doctor would order for Chelsea. The veteran defender is still the captain of his international team, which shows his longevity.
It remains to be seen if both parties can come to an agreement, with a crunch run of games to come after the international break. Chelsea would surely want to keep Silva for at least another season before deciding on the future.
